MAC is inclusive and diverse, reaching out to all of Markham’s communities and encouraging artists of all ages, gender, colour, ethnicity and abilities.  
MAC endeavours to promote and support high quality and creative art opportunities and events.  
MAC is accountable and transparent in its day-to-day operations, governance and management.
MAC is a resourceful, committed and persevering problem solver, adept at finding creative solutions for sustaining the organization and providing exceptional opportunities for artists.

Advocacy

Markham Arts Council has consistently advocated for the arts and its numerous benefits in building healthy, vibrant, and connected communities. Through its programs, initiatives and partnerships, the Arts Council has made a dedicated effort to:

Raise awareness of the arts, their economic impact and benefits.
Advocate for increased funding for the arts.
Influence actions, policies, and programs that affect the arts.

Promote the value of the achievements of the arts industry.
Educate the community on the importance and crucial benefits of the arts.
Ensure that the arts remain an integral part of life in Markham.

Community Engagement

Markham Arts Council believes that conducive working relationships between artists, arts, cultural and community organizations, and the broader community enable better living conditions for all. With this in mind, the Arts Council has focused on creating and offering qualitative meaningful programming that:

Encourages artists, arts organizations, and community members to view themselves as equal stakeholders in building better communities
Train and support these groups toward that goal
Work towards creating a vibrant, healthier, more sustainable environment for the arts in the City of Markham

Networking

Networking isn’t just about handing out business cards or having lots of friends and followers on social media. It is about building key relationships.

At Markham Arts Council, we understand the importance of getting in front of the right audience.
Through our exhibition and festival initiatives, we constantly strive to provide our local artists with the repeated exposure required to gain leads and referrals, thus growing their art business.
