Culture Days

Culture Days is a Canada-wide initiative celebrating arts and culture. Each September, there are thousands of free, participatory events across the country that invite the public to get involved with visual, literary, and performing arts. The Markham Arts Council is an event organizer for Culture Days and hosts activities to explore intersections of art and culture within the community.

Culture Days (2020)

In 2020 owing to the pandemic, Culture Days was a Canada-wide, month long virtual celebration. Held between September 25 and October 25, MAC offered weekly activities including visual arts exhibitions, engaging talks on topics such as tattoo art, workshops on calligraphy and comic book pop art, as well as spoken word and cultural dance performances.

Culture Days (2019)

In 2019, on the occasion of Culture Days, MAC inaugurated a Community Art Wall at the Aaniin Community Centre. The art wall was a year long programming feature where local artists would have the opportunity to display their artwork within their community. The Art Wall was inaugurated by Markham’s Mayor Frank Scarpitti.

Culture Days (2018)

In 2018 MAC participated in its inaugural Culture Days initiatives. Community members were encouraged to explore 3-D pen art and take home their creations. They were also encouraged to participate by placing pieces of wood or scrabble tiles in a community created work of mosaic  art.
