WHEN:

September 24th and 25th (either one day or both)

This sit or stand class is all about getting to the music in the body and letting the body and mind dance together! Each session includes a rhythmic but gentle warm-up and stretch followed by dance elements that can all be done while standing or sitting. Katya integrates elements from several dance styles and provides an example and general structure, encouraging each person to move in the ways that work for their body and mobility. The music includes Brazilian drumming, Cuban, Big band, Jazz, and Waltz.

12 noon – 12:45 pm – Partner Dance 101

Learn some basic partner moves that you can apply to any song! Don’t have a partner? Bring a friend or a family member! Yes, it will help you with your two left feet, and more! No prior dance experience necessary.

12:45 – Show Time!

WHERE:

Millenium Bandstand, Mainstreet Unionville Pavilion

About the Artist

Katya Kuznetsova is a dance artist, educator and cultural producer. Her focus as a dance artist is on building communities through dance. She does so in a way that embraces vulnerability, builds confidence and opens access to the joy of human connection. Through Dance Together Project, she has been creating dance with “non-dancers” – designing and leading partner dance workshops and choreographies for beginners, as well as special workshops for the elderly, wheelchair movers and people with visual impairments. As a choreographer, she is fascinated by the possibilities of cross-referencing movement styles – contemporary, street dance and ballroom – in order to find something delightfully unexpected yet familiar to us all. Since 2019, together with several Toronto dance and visual artists, Katya has been co-producing the Dance Together Festival, which offers free open-air community dance workshops and events that celebrate positive and accessible dance experiences.
